WhitePepper student Lucy Hall has successfully launched a new food career, landing a job within weeks of graduating from the Chef Academy.

With the average person estimated to have 7 careers in their lifetime, Lucy’s story is an example of how re-training can inspire confidence and skills to begin a new career path.

Taking the leap

Lucy has taken a keen interest in food all her life, and chose to stop working where she’d been for the last 10 years. She signed up for the qualification after finding WhitePepper online. Lucy decided the time was right in her life, and was ready to take the leap. “I decided if I was ever going to make the change, I had to seize the moment.”

The unique and concise course allowed her to re-train without taking months or years out of her life, which many find isn’t possible with other commitments such as a mortgage to pay or children to look after.

Inspired, confident and skilled

Lucy came to an Open Day and decided it was the right place for her. “It had a really nice feel, I liked the style and simplicity of the place.”

The 4-week course provided a stepping stone to her new foodie venture. It has equipped her with professional-level skills, culinary experience and an internationally recognised qualification to launch a food career. “Being in a bustling kitchen environment has been really exciting. I’ve developed my skills in baking, meat and fish.”

Since finishing the course, she has completed a ski season abroad as a chalet host. She is now searching for work on a yacht as a private chef. Without the qualification behind her, she doesn’t believe her CV would have been strong enough to land the job.
