This sweet Dorset treat is easy to make and great served warm with clotted cream. The perfect Afternoon Tea.
Ingredients
- 3 Dorset Bramley apples
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 225g self-raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 75g soft butter
- 175g soft brown sugar
- 2 beaten eggs
- icing sugar to dust
Method
- Preheat oven 180°c
- Sift the flour, baking powder, mixed spice and cinnamon
- Peel the apples and dice
- Coat the apples with a small amount of the flour mixture
- Add the beaten eggs, butter and sugar to the flour mixture until smooth
- Fold in the apples
- Spoon into greased baking tin
- Put the tin into the oven for 1 hour, cake should be spongy to touch in the middle
- Remove to a cooling rack and dust with icing sugar
- Serve warm with Dorset clotted cream
White Pepper’s top tip: Once the cake has cooled, you can serve it warm by cutting a slice, covering with cling film, and popping it in the microwave for 10-20 seconds.
