16 year old Carrie, a Chef Academy graduate

Carrie has just finished school and wanted to add another string to her bow. She took the 3 week course to develop lifelong cooking skills but also as a potential career venture. She is a graduate of the 3 week Culinary Skills Certificate (February 2016). Here she tells us about her experience of the course…

Tell us about your current situation and reasons for choosing the course

I’m currently working part-time and am looking to work in a kitchen in the future. I also want to develop my all-round culinary skills so that I’m confident at all types of cooking. It’s such an important skill to have, and I’m hoping the course will also improve my chances of work. I do lots of cooking at home but want to broaden my range of skills and increase my confidence in the kitchen.

What were your reasons for choosing White Pepper?

The school has a good reputation and has won lots of awards, so that really impressed me. Also, the course content looked really good and I wanted to gain a qualification at the same time. The fact that it’s an internationally recognised course should really enhance my CV and make me attractive to employers.

What are you hoping to do now the course has finished?

I’m willing to move wherever there is work. In the future I’d love to open my own food business but I’d like to gain more experience in a professional kitchen first. The ongoing career support should be really helpful too.

What skills do you feel have most improved?

The skills I’ve improved the most are time management, butchering and filleting techniques.

What have you most enjoyed about the course?

I have enjoyed the overall feel of the course, learning new things and developing my overall cooking skills.
